What’s been your go-to colour during lockdown?

Have you found yourself gravitating towards a particular colour during the many months of lockdown?
Orange is my favourite colour and I was surprised looking back it wasn’t the colour that I was drawn to during lockdown. The colour that nourished me was yellow!
On reflection, I think I love that it’s always so happy and it must have been what I needed. I love that colour doesn’t know what’s going on and yellow never failed to waved me a ‘cheery hello’ whenever I saw it. I feel I connected to its sense of optimism and I realised it was really important for me during this time to remain optimistic in the wish for a better world, a kinder world than the one we left behind.
I found I was wearing my yellow t-shirt more than I ever have and every week I would buy either a bunch of daffodils, tulips or chrysanthemums. Lately it’s been roses.
The interesting thing about colour, you’re drawn towards the colour that’s giving you the energy you need at that time to support how you’re feeling or how you want to feel.
My favourite colour is actually orange but I wasn’t drawn to its playful, fun energy. What I needed was the optimistic cheeriness of yellow.
This is a simple but beautiful example of how colour can support us no matter what we are going through whether that’s a cheery pick me up, a boost of confidence or to soothe the mind, colour is such an amazing resource that we have at our finger tips.
That’s the power of colour psychology.
I’d love to know what’s been your go to colour? And just as interesting, was it your go to colour before lockdown? What do you feel your colour was giving you, nourishing you with?
Wishing you a colourful week!

I’ve been very drawn to green during lockdown which surprises me as it’s my least favourite colour
Hi Anna,
That’s interesting. Colour never ceases to surprise. Was it a particular green that you were drawn to or lots of different greens. It will be interesting if this stays under lockdown…

I was drawn more to grey and green … not sure why. Maybe it was a “safe” thing to change when everything else was pandemicky 😉
Hi Sharon,
Good observation. Perhaps it was the feeling of safety and reassurance when the world felt so uncertain. Like your new word 😉

I too love orange, but found that it was too “warm” a color for me during this summer! I craved coolness in mind and in body, so reached for my greens and turquoise and have worn these with my linens and white .
Hi Simone,
It was heating you up! I can imagine the cooling of a turquoise sea… 🙂

Hi Karen,
I personally being attracted by green, especially lighter tones as pistachio, lime or mint. I guess the soothing relaxing
power of this colour, combined with a touch of yellow or white really keeped me relaxed and fresh. Ps: Orange is my favourite colour too.
I found that I bought all new clothes in blue. A colour I don’t usually wear being a warm Autumn. At the moment I think it’s the loveliest colour (thinking of the sky and sea). Maybe it’s because I’ve spent so much time indoors recently due to lockdown.
