Karen’s Adventures In Colour For September

Hello my fellow colour lovers. Yet another colour filled month it has been. This month I was at the Dulux Colour of the Year launch event, the next evening sharing my colour journey to over 200 designers, the first foreign language of The Little Book of Colour came out, discussing Colour & Wellbeing at a packed audience for 100% Design and the joy at having my book hitting number 1 spot! So come with me as I take you through my colourful month for September…
Dulux Colour Futures 2020
Every year around this time Dulux launch their Colour of the Year. I was invited to their 2020 press launch as their colour psychology expert to discuss the colour palettes with the press and influencers. I’ve been to several of their launch events and they are always put on an amazing event and it’s always a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colour lovers. Oh and the Dulux colour for 2020 is Tranquil Dawn.

Summer Edition – If Not Now Then When events
Great evening back at Minotti London, this time to give a talk to over 200 design professionals sharing my journey ‘How did I get here?’ And I can say it’s definitely been the road less travelled. I also shared what I learnt along the way and how that got me through the darkest of times to being known internationally for what I do and my book deal with Penguin. It’s been one hell of a ride! Looking forward to seeing where this crazy colourful journey takes me next.

The Little Book of Colour in Romanian
The first foreign language of my book was published this month in Romanian. They certainly wasted no time! These photos were taken at the trade fair in Romania this month. I just love how they made the book cover the centrepiece of their stand – quite the eye catching display. There are another 11 languages to come. I wonder who will be next…

100% Design Colour & Wellbeing panel discussion
100% Design London is an annual event that takes place every September. I was part of a panel discussion on Colour & Wellbeing where we discussed the power of colour to make the places we live and work in simply better places to be. And how through a greater understanding of what colour can do, explaining how it’s the most effective element of a successful design scheme with wellbeing at its heart. In great company with chair Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director Dulux, Biodynamic lighting Jim Ashley-Down, care home designer Jacqui Smith and me discussing Applied Colour Psychology.

LBoC best seller in 3 categories
It’s been four weeks since my book launched (gosh time flies) and I’m thrilled it’s still at No.1. Thank you so much to everyone who has bought the book. I had someone email me the other day to say they had bought 10 – that was their Christmas presents sorted! And an extra buzz it’s in the top 3 for Hot New Releases, Most Wished For and Most Gifted. Thank you, Thank you! x

I would like to dedicate this post to a very dear friend who suddenly passed away this month. Derek Grantham from Derbyshire, UK made Australia his home for the past 25+ years. He was the treasurer of the Colour Society of Australia, an absolute gentleman, who had the most wonderful positive outlook on life and incredibly supportive and generous with his time. I especially loved his annual visits back to the UK where as perfect timing would have it, there was always a colour exhibition of some kind on which we would visit. I’ll miss our Skype calls which were always full of colourful stories discussing our colour visions for the future. Derek was my biggest supporter back in Australia and I will be forever grateful for his generosity and his unwavering belief in me.
So that’s a colourful wrap for September. See you again for October’s colour filled issue.
And if you would like to stay in touch with what I’m up to in our colourful world then join me over on Instagram.
Until then, wishing you a colourful day!
