I am back with my 5 favourite colour series and this time I am sharing my top 5 podcasts that celebrate the world of colour. Each one offers something unique whether it is exploring the science behind colour, uncovering its cultural stories or simply inspiring you to see colour in a new way.

To celebrate International Podcast Day, I am delighted to share the podcasts that I return to again and again for their inspiring conversations and rich insights into how colour shapes our lives.

The National Gallery London – Stories in Colour

As Kim puts it, “If you are a dreamer, come in”.

Stories in Colour is a podcast from London’s National Gallery that explores how colour has shaped our world.

Each episode reveals the surprising stories and hidden histories of colour, from ancient times to today. You will hear from curators, scientists, historians and artists as they share how humans have created colour and meaning throughout the ages.

Through these conversations, the Gallery’s own paintings are experienced in a completely new light, offering fresh ways to see and understand their vibrant collection.

Annie Sloan – The Colourist

Hosted by Annie Sloan CBE, the artist, author and creator of Chalk Paint, together with brand ambassador Tristan Merriam, this podcast is perfect for painters, creatives and anyone who loves colour.

Each episode explores the story and inspiration behind one of Annie’s iconic Chalk Paint colours, weaving in art, travel, interiors and colour theory.

Their lively conversations are full of ideas to spark your creativity and inspire you to bring more colour into your life. A new colour, and a new episode, is released every month.

Sarah Gottlieb – Sound of Colour

Colour designer Sarah Gottlieb invites cultural and creative leaders to share the colours that have shaped their lives and work. Through these conversations you will hear personal stories of how colour influences their creativity and the meaning it holds for them.

Each episode explores a key piece of the guest’s work where colour plays a central role, uncovers where they find their inspiration and finishes with a unique musical moment, “the sound of a colour”.

Phos – In Light of it All

You might be wondering why I chose a podcast that explores light. It is because colour begins with light. No light means no colour.

In Light of It All, from Light Tribe by Phos and hosted by Xander Cadisch, explores how light can influence our wellbeing and help create healthier human habitats.

With so much of our time spent indoors Xander draws on biology, technology and biophilic design to rethink how we live, work and feel. It is an inspiring journey into the future of living well in light of it all.
